Why Do I Need to Fix Corrupt Registry Files, My Computer is Only Two Months Old?
By Edward Lathrop

It s really great to buy a new computer! With it you can do all the things you were unable to do on the old one. All your former limitations are left behind you. You have the resources to do any computer operation now. The sky s the limit. Get any program you want, your computer can deal with it. You re up to date and then some!

This was pretty much the attitude, and logically so, of a customer of mine who told me about his PC that had become very slow in a very short time. He had a good virus/spyware cleaner and had been using it regularly. Still, the computer acted like it was being dragged down like something was eating its resources.

We re talking about a fast computer here! This guy didn t make the mistake many people do when they buy too much based on price instead of quality. This computer has 2Gig RAM!

Onboard memory is critical, but…

Several times I ran into the problem where a new computer was slow simply because, even though it was brand new, it had Windows Vista and only 512MB RAM. This is not the case with this computer. It is P4 Humming around at 3.3 MHZ and even has a dedicated gamer video card!

When I told this fellow he ought to get a good registry cleaner because he probably has some corrupt registry files, he became sort of indignant! “The computer s new!” he pleaded, “we just got it two months ago!”

I understand how he felt. The computer was new and it wasn t cheap. He thought he had left old his old lack of speed problems behind, but unfortunately, the fact a computer is new doesn t make it maintenance free.

Why is there corruption?

The nature of Windows operating systems is the registry becomes corrupt during what is considered normal use. This is not only true of Windows Vista but also of Windows XP and all the other Microsoft Windows platforms as well.

The problem is, as these operating systems have evolved, they have become more and more complicated and use more and more memory just to be functional. There was a time, the Windows 95 era for instance, when registry corruption could go on a long time without being noticed because a few more kilobytes of memory would push the O.S. to work around this corruption.

XP and Vista use a lot of resources

Now, with Windows XP and Vista, it takes a lot more memory to push corruption aside and get the computer to slog through it. Also, the fact drivers are so much bigger, the programs new computers run are so much more resource dependent and newer microprocessors are required to perform so many more functions, this corruption can t be very effectively worked around any more.

Bring back the 486!

So, does this mean you should convert to an Intel 486SD with Windows 3.11? No not at all! However, like your brand new car still needs to have its oil changed once in a while, your new computer still needs to be scanned for viruses and spyware and it needs to regularly have its registry scanned for and repaired of corruption.

This is not a monumental task, nor is it cost prohibited.

How To Fix A Computer Crash
A common computer problem many people have is with their registry files. These are files, which basic...
Just remember, like you wouldn t put used crankcase oil in your new Lexus, you wouldn t get some non-guaranteed freeware program to deal with your registry corruption would you?

It s just regular maintenance

These days, you need to scan for viruses and spyware regularly, and you need to scan for and repair registry corruption regularly, as well. Normally, this requires two separate programs, a virus/spyware program and a registry cleaner. Scan for viruses/ spyware first, then do a registry scan and clean because if you have any spyware removed, this will leave registry corruption.

So, the happy ending to the story is our friend is back up to 100% speed because he had a ton of registry corruption repaired. In a short amount of time, he, his wife, their two teenage daughters and their boyfriends had flown around the Net almost endlessly. As you might have predicted, there was some registry file corruption left behind. Still, everything is fine since the registry cleaning.

New computers are absolutely wonderful. I am a big fan of the biggest and fastest in the world of computing, but their maintenance is more critical than ever. This is just a way of life.

Life Never Stops With Laptops
By Alden Jerry

It is an open secret that computers are one of the most revolutionary inventions in the modern times. The significance of the computer system can be understood with the fact that there is no field or sector in which it is not used one or more ways. We can find it everywhere millions of jobs are created with it and controls the very important functions of any nation. Overall, it is a part and parcel of our life. As the time is changing, the features shape and size of computers is also changing. It has changed dramatically and now laptops have come which has many attractive features. It has given a new dimension to the computer industry in a more effective way.

Laptops have changed the working style of people completely. You don t find the big size and heavy desktops more often. It has given way to the trendy, attractive and stylish notebooks which have given a chance to work while you are travelling. Now the manufacturing companies talk about the palmtops which will be more efficient. The Laptops has built a strong position in the mind of customers that it is unlikely to be taken place by any other product in near future.

There are many advantages if you use a notebook. The foremost is its portability which gives you the option to take it anywhere you want to. You can work on it irrespective to the place where you are. It is a very simple device, easy to use and having light weight. There is no need to wait for power supply as it also runs on the battery. Nowadays, this portable computer has become the fashion statement too. People love to carry a fashionable, high-tech laptop with them. The manufacturing companies have understood this need and coming with the stylish and good looking devices.

However, there are certain drawbacks too with notebooks. The sound quality, speed and graphics are not as attractive as it is in the case of desktops. In spite of these, these portable laptops are scoring better than its arch-rivals. The market share is increasing at a rapid pace. In the last 2-3 years, the sale has gone up and prices have gone down. The demand and supply theory seems working here.

If you decide to own a laptop, you have many options available. You can find a number of brands available in the market such as Sony, Toshiba, hp, Lenovo, Dell and many others. Each of these brands boasting its features and facilities. HP is one of the strongest brands in the market having the highest market share. It offers a wide range of models with superb quality.
Before making any Laptop deals, whether it is Sony Laptop, Toshiba Laptop or Acer Laptop, you should take care of certain factors so that you can enjoy the purchase. First understand you need and budget. Go with the quality not price always. Many products produced by the local companies are not of the best quality and becomes scrap after few years. Always look for warranty schemes and the other added benefits so that you do not need to pay extra for any repairing or replacement in the warranty period.

The brand name also makes an impact to your purchase. It gives the sense of reliability and accountability which is not in the case of the local products. The last thing you must do is to compare all the specifications of the products from different brands and then take your decision.

CRM Systems - Merging Technologies and People
By Nahshon Wingard

Technology needs people and people need technology. This symbiotic relationship spurs business growth. A current example of this relationship is the CRM systems used by businesses, their personnel, suppliers, and customers.

Cutting-edge Systems

CRM is leading businesses out of the woods, so to speak. Business trends keep on changing and competition continues to be fierce. Industries need to survive and cut losses to a minimum or ride the crest towards profitably and sustainability. The CRM systems available make this goal doable but require right people to manage these.

The Internet-based systems for CRM are designed to fit into the business current system making the transition seamless. Time cannot be spent waiting for the system to operate hence, businesses opt for the web-based or hosted services, which are cost-effective compared to business-administered systems.

The CRM systems are designed to meet different business requirements, from data collecting and management, networking, installing better communication platforms, and extending business reach beyond geographical borders. Whether the systems are web-based or hosted, it will always have an impact on the business operations and people.

CRM Features

Everything that makes business efficient and dynamic have been conceived and encapsulated in CRM technology. Contrary to some unavoidable misconceptions, CRM systems are not merely about the collection and management of customer information, but it includes following their purchase history and purchasing trends.

CRM systems benefits different operations in the business such as accounting, purchasing, supplies, and people management, while streamlining operations. When everything is running in the same direction and is shared from the same viewpoint, there no room for errors. All operations are then centrally-managed towards a customer-focused agenda.

The system facilitate sales forecasts with applications that make review of expenses and revenues and availability of stocks. The system also feature information collection tools that improve data capture. The ease of information transference from leads to customers provides the backdrop for future sales plans and strategies.

Reports from the different operations will be consistent and accurate as information from the database are shared and constantly updated. The communications platform can absorb different modes, making the business available in many ways.

Customers can use the chat feature, send emails, fax, or call for service or product support. The flexibility of the system also allows the sharing of data with ACT and Microsoft Outlook.

The People Behind Technology

The people involved in the business have specific roles and use different tools to expedite their work. Delivery people are given the vehicles and mobile phones to ensure the fast delivery of orders and connectivity at all times. Accountants have their electronic gadgets to make computing easier and faster. At the CRM, people have to acquaint themselves with the management of data using the software. But all of them have to share information to keep the business wheel running.

Standardization of Technologies

Seniors - Computers Can Be Their Magic Carpets!
By Raymond Angus

Seniors, computers bring to them the wonders of the entire
world. Are you a senior or a boomer? Do you want to visit
Australia and pet a koala?

Have you always wanted to study the nesting habits of sea
turtles in Florida and watch them deposit their eggs. Maybe
you want to tour the ancient coliseum in Rome. Would you
like to know if Begonias will grow in your back yard?

Your trusty computer can provide the vehicle to satisfy your
desires and you don t even have to leave the house. Punch a
few buttons on its keyboard, buckle your seat belt, and get
ready for the beginning of an adventure.

A lot of seniors though are actually terrified of computers.
You ve probably heard their excuses more times than you care
to count. “I m too old for a computer!” “Computers are for
young people!” “I m computer illiterate!”

The last protestation is the strangest. It implies they
lack the ability to master operating a computer. They ve
conveniently forgotten they were really illiterate when they
entered kindergarten and couldn t read a word.

If you re a senior, and you want to experience this
technological magic carpet, then do it! No matter how thick
headed you think you are, learning how to master the
operation of a computer is within your reach.

You only have to make two decisions.

1.Obtain a computer. This is relatively easy to do.
Computers are for sale everywhere. But before you choose
one to buy. Determine what you intend to use it for.
Most seniors want a computer simply to look up things on the
internet like ads, or keep tabs on household bills to pay.
If this is your determining factor, then perhaps a
relatively inexpensive PC will be the way for you to go.

2.How do you learn how to make your brand new computer do
its wonderful tricks. Don t go out and hire someone to come
into your home and teach you the intricacies of
computerhood. Get any one of the hundreds of simple to
understand books on the market for the care and feeding of
computers.

Then read the book and practice.

Learning Computers for Seniors

Computer technology is pretty common these days, today every one is dependent upon the computer systems for their work. Computer systems let us store the various kinds of documents and even make us available with different kind of information. It is all about a magic machine that enables us to find out solution for every problem. Apart from its usage and utility it is also necessary to clean up the computer system. Computer cleaning is something used for the better performance and in order to obtain positive results.

Computer cleaning is a thing that helps our computers to run faster and to obtain more productive results. Generally, we relate cleaning with the cleaning of the outer portion of the computer but with cleaning here we are about to mention the tips for the internal cleaning process of the computer files and its various functional units. It can allow our computer to work even faster and efficiently. Every one faces several odd situations with their computer systems as corrupted files and outdated working system can create some serious problems. So in order to avoid all these problems we need to take care of these problems properly.

The most important thing in computer cleaning here is to avoid using such programs that are not necessary for you apart from this you are also required to delete all kinds of files that may be harmful to use often, try to associate files with their related programs that will ease up your work and will make you less troubled in maintaining the records. It may be possible that we sometime download such files that may not be very helpful for us and they are occupying a large amount of space in your computer system. So we are basically required to maintain the balance of the space for the necessary files. Try to delete all the unnecessary files from your computer in order to prevent the space from storage of the unwanted material.

Secondly it is necessary to De fragment your computer and wither away your old files in order to make your computer more productive and well working. While searching the web make it clear that you have cleared all the temporary files that you tend to download without your concern while browsing and loading the material. After cleaning of related files it is also necessary to upgrade the various software and hardware system. Always keep your software and hardware system up to mark in order to obtain the highest performance. It may be possible that you may find it difficult in the process of computer cleaning to clean up your hardware system as well as the software system too. You may even lose some of the important system files while upgrading. So it is important to follow the upgrading process cautiously and calmly.

Computer cleaning process has risen out of the various problems that we face with the heavily loaded computer systems.

Properly Cleaning Your Computer

MCSA vs MCSE
By Dean Novosat

Getting Microsoft certified is an excellent way to boost your career or to increase your credibility if you are looking for a job. Many employers seek candidates who have earned their MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator) or MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer) because it shoes them that these people have the dedication and knowledge when it comes to Microsoft operating systems and networking. Deciding which certification to get can be a difficult decision.

The MCSA certification from Microsoft only requires four exams and is the first step to getting your MCSE. So, many people who have their MCSE already have their MCSA. If you are just starting out, though, you may just opt for your MCSA. This can be quickly obtained either through self study or some online distance learning courses. The MCSA exam is not as tough as the MCSE tests. The MCSA certification is great for people who are looking for a job where you will be administering an already existing Microsoft network. These IT professionals are the ones with the day-to-day responsibilities of maintaining the network, users, and assets on the network.

An MCSE certification proves you have a deeper knowledge of the Microsoft environment and is ideal for the person who is responsible for a larger, more complex network. If you have a domain controller with DNS or even multiple domains in an enterprise-wide forest, then you are looking at the responsibilities of an MCSE. These networks can be extremely complicated and network security will be an important aspect of the MCSE s responsibility. If you work in this type of environment or wish to work in this type of environment, passing the seven exams required of an MCSE proves that you have the knowledge and skill set to handle this larger, more complex network.

The one big differentiation between the two certifications is the amount of work, study and knowledge involved to pass the exams. The MCSA exams are much easier (although they are not easy by any standards!) than the ones for the MCSE. This is because the job requirements of an MCSE are much higher than that of the MCSA. Also, the costs associated with earning the MCSE are higher since there are more exam requirements and hence, more studying, more classes, and more study materials that are required. Also, the cost to take the exams will be much higher.

So, if you are an IT professional or desire to become one, getting your MCSA is your first step to getting your MCSE.

MCSE Boot Camp - MCSE

Why You Should Clean Your Windows Registry
By Ken J Morris

Windows Registry: Introduction

The Windows registry is a fundamental component of all Windows operating system releases after Windows 95. It is a central hierarchal database repository that stores hardware, software, and user profiles configuration information of your Windows system. To view the registry of your Windows system, run the Regedit command from Start > Run to open the Registry Editor. You will see a folder structure that is quite similar to the folder structure displayed in Windows Explorer.

The registry is comprised of five root keys: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, HKEY-CURRENT_USER, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, HKEY_USERS, and HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG. All information related to user settings and preferences, hardware, software, operating system configuration, and file associations are stored in these keys. Any activity that you perform on your Windows system, either makes an entry in the registry or accesses information from it. If you monitor your registry using a registry monitor tool, you will see that the registry provides hundreds of values to your system in just a few seconds.

Due to its extensive use and need in operating your computer, there are a large number of reasons why errors occur in the registry. Let s now have a look at what causes registry errors and the methods to repair registry errors.

Registry Damage: Causes

Registry errors usually occur due to the accumulation of unwanted, obsolete, redundant, and invalid information within it. Frequent install and uninstall of applications is one of the major causes of registry errors. Whenever you install an application certain entries are added to the registry. These entries are required for the application to function properly on your PC. When you uninstall this application the entries are removed. However, the uninstallers of many applications fail to remove all the entries from the registry. The situation is worse if you do not follow correct program uninstall steps and just delete the application folders from your PC. These left over registry keys clog it and cause it to grow at an uncontrollable rate. Many times, when a registry entry is removed, it leaves behind vacant spaces or registry holes. These registry holes fragment the registry and make it unstable.

Viruses and spyware are also a major cause of concern because the malicious entries added by them affect the file associations within the registry and damage it.
A damaged registry generates frequent system errors and may even render the system unusable. To prevent this situation it is very important for you to perform a regular registry clean up in order to keep your system error-free.

Registry Repair: Methods

Although you can perform a certain amount of registry maintenance using the Registry Editor, it is not a very easy method. Even the most experienced technicians are uncomfortable when using the Registry Editor to perform a clean-up.

The main reason behind this is that all changes done using the Registry Editor are permanent and cannot be undone. And, if you forgot to make a backup before proceeding with the changes, then any mistake could make your PC unbootable.
To overcome this problem, it is recommended that you opt for a <a href="http://www.repair-xp.com/reviews.html"target="_new" onclick="javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('/outbound/article/www.

Windows XP Registry - Clean Registry for a Better PC Performance

Remember The Milk - A Must Have Addition To Your Google Account
By Dave Shaw

Remember the Milk (RTM) is something I came across just a few weeks ago. I discovered it whilst searching for add-ons to Gmail. What is it? I doubt I can put it better than the makers themselves…

“Managing tasks is generally not a fun way to spend your time. We created Remember The Milk so that you no longer have to write your to-do lists on sticky notes, whiteboards, random scraps of paper, or the back of your hand. Remember The Milk makes managing tasks an enjoyable experience.”

Sounds great. So how does it work? First you need to create an account over at Remember The Milk. Next you need to decide how you d like to use RTM. In fact you can change your mind later and add new services whenever you like.

What are the options?

Gmail

My favourite - Gmail. After a quick install of a Firefox add-on you re ready to begin. Just enter a new task in the text field and press enter and you ll see your task show up in the pane. The great thing is, you only need to enter Anything-you-like, 5pm, tomorrow and RTM will automatically assign the time and date to your task. Once entered you can assign tags to your task/reminder which you can later use to filter your tasks. I ve just started using the tags @work and @home which is very useful for getting the most relevant tasks for wherever I am at the time.

If you enter a Gmail contact in the task text bar, RTM will connect your task with that contact. And if you task is related to an email, select the email and you see under the More actions drop down that you can select Add task which will connect the email and the task. You can even set Gmail to add a task for a particular email whenever you star an email. Just go to Gmail s settings and turn it on. When you re ready to complete the task you ll see a link to the email in your task overview. Click it, reply and you re done!

Google Calender

If you use Google Calender then RTM will be extremely clever and see if it can work out when your task is due from your calender events. For instance, if you d entered Mum s birthday in your calender for a particular day and then came to start a task with the phrase Buy flowers for Mum s birthday , RTM will automatically find the date from your calendar and enter it in. If you separately add RTM to your Google Calender, your tasks will show up on the relevant days.

And the rest…

RTM is also available for your mobile, iGoogle, Twitter, iPhone, iTouch, pocket PC and offline with Google Gears.

Try it out.

The Future is Now

As computer hardware becomes cheaper and cheaper, and your rust bucket of a PC is getting older, some of you may be shopping around for a new PC, or you may be wanting to build your own PC, or have a geeky tech-savvy friend help, because you and him know a little bit about computers, but aren t quite sure if you should leave it to the professionals.

Build Your Own
If you have a personality that enjoys learning, and want to strive to get the most knowledge, usability, and usefulness out of your PC, and yourself as possible you should seriously consider building your own PC. The experience and knowledge one gains from building their own PC is immeasurable by any of the other previously mentioned options. Not to mention the pride and joy you get from building your own. And who knows, this could also lead you down the road to a new hobby, or even maybe a future profession.

Pros:

You ll know your computer better than anyone else.

You can learn a lot from building your own computer, like repairing, troubleshooting, and upgrading PCs.

You get bragging rights for building your own. (You may know one or two people that have built their own PC, but the rest of your friends will be amazed)

You can easily make room for future upgrades, and when the time comes you ll know how to upgrade your computer.

You ll get a good bang for the buck when putting together your own computer, and if you have a lot of buck you ll get a lot of bang.

Cons:

Any problems you encounter will have to be solved by yourself and a clever use of the world wide web.

There s a chance that some parts you order will be DOA (Dead on Arrival) which means you ll have to send them back and wait for a replacement part

Operating Systems aren t cheap, unless you re going with Linux.

Ordering A Dell
This option is good for those that simply don t have time to mess around with all this techno-stuff, and would rather just get on with using their computer, not learning anything new. This is the lazy way out. Luckily, for the lazy people Dell has a nice website setup to help them assemble their new computer, pay for it, and have it shipped to them in a week or so, though this usually comes with a premium price tag.

Pros:

It s an easy way to get exactly what you want, without any hassle or problems.

Tech Support will always be there when you have a problem.

Comes with a warranty.

Cons:

If you have a problem, you can t fix it without voiding your warranty, and if you don t have a warrant you ll probably spend big bucks at Geek Squad getting your computer fixed .

Recommended upgrades, hardware, software on the website is extremely expensive, and usually not needed, or do not offer the performance increase for the price.

Prebuilt systems usually cost more.

Custom Gaming Computers: Why Build Your Own?

Using Your Trusty Friend
If you have a tech savvy friend that knows more about computers than you do, you could try asking him to help you build a system, it s a good way to get the benefits of a custom PC, while having a backup check and recheck all your work to make sure you don t do anything wrong or make any problems. Chances are, if you ask your friend he will say yes, but you have to make sure you re ready to put in the work, because he will put in his fair share (Hopefully). Don t forget to reimburse your friend for the time and effort that he ll put to help you get the PC you want, it is hard work to put together a PC, even if he is enjoying don t forget to say thanks for his hard work or take him out to lunch or something, and don t take him for granted. Tech people usually get put into that category of service people that will help you out with all your tech problems, and have no feelings, or no need for any reimbursement or thanks, because they just simply enjoy helping you out with your problems.

Pros:

Your friend is probably the easiest and most trustworthy tech support you can find.

A good second judgement to correct any mistakes you ve made or are about to make.

You also get many of the benefits from the Building Your Own section

Cons:

Friend may be lazy and not want to help you.

Your friend could lack the knowledge needed to build a complete system, and will get you stuck halfway through the process.

He may be unreliable in helping you with the computer.

Hopefully this post has helped you decide whether or not you want to take the task of building your own PC, or leaving it to the pros. Readers please leave me a comment on what category of system you have, did you build your own, get someone to help you build, or order it from Dell/bought it from a store?

The Origin Of Email - How It All Began
By Gary San

Electronic mail, better known as Email, has changed the face of communication over several decades. Email can be defined as a method for composing, sending, storing and receiving
messages via electronic communication systems. The word “email” is used as both a noun and a verb, and applies to all Internet email systems based on SMTP, X.400 systems and intranet systems.

How did it all begin?

Before the Internet, there was email: it was probably the most crucial tool in developing the
Internet in the late 80s. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology first exhibited the CTSS (Compatible Time Sharing System) in 1961. The CTSS allowed many simultaneous users to log into the IBM 7094 from remote dial-up machines, and to store online files on as diskette. This incredible development encouraged users to share information in a variety of ways. The birth of email was in 1965, when multiple users of a time-sharing mainframe computer started to communicate remotely and electronically.

While the complete history and exact dates are somewhat hazy in detail, the very first systems to have basic email facilities were System Development Corporation s Q32 and Massachusetts Institute of Technology s CTSS. By 1966, email had rapidly expanded to become network email, allowing users to pass electronic message between different computers.

The ARPANET was undoubtedly a good contributor to the development of email. History reports
say there were experiments on inter-system email transfers just after it was created in 1969. Ray
Tomlinson, a programmer involved in developing a time-sharing system named the TENEX , was
the first person to discover that the various hosts can be differentiated by using the @ sign to
separate the user s name and their machine. Until 1971, when the actual “email” was discovered,
machines could only send messages to the users within its own system.

The popularity of email was boosted through the ARPANET and in time, email became the core
technology of Internet communication.

Ray Tomlinson - Discovering the Network Email

The first person to discover the possibility of sending a receiving message between different
computers through a network, Ray Tomlinson is the person to thank for the revolutionary
outcome of the “email”. Although there were many instances where messages passed between
different users within the same computer and created quite an impression among users, the true
email we know today began with the first network email.

Ray Tomlinson was involved in a group developing a time-sharing system named TENEX that
ran on Digital PDP-10 computers, and he was working on the Network Control Protocol for both
TENEX and CPYNET (experimental file transfer program). While making improvements on SNDMSG, the local inter-user mail program available at that time, Ray Tomlinson realized that he could easily incorporate the code from CPYNET in to SNDMSG and transfer messages through a network connection to remote mailboxes, as well as attach messages to local mailbox files.

By incorporating the features of SNDMSG and CPYNET, he managed to develop a network- emailing program and tested it on two machine literally set side by side. He used @ sign to distinguish the different machines in a very simpler manner, such as “from: me@thismachine to: you@thatmachine”.

Online Multiplayer Games - How It All Began
